OUR MISSION IS TWOFOLD

A COMPUTER FOR EVERY FAMILY THAT NEEDS ONE A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE FOR OUR OUR PLANET

POSSIBLE PC is a Georgia based organization dedicated to bringing affordable computers to families that need them in the Greater Atlanta area and throughout Georgia. This program is affiliated with Electronics Waste Management (EWM), a leading electronics recycling company that can provide the discarded computers and other electronics materials needed for refurbishing. This gives us a steady supply of parts, but the success of our mission also depends on assistance and support from the Greater Atlanta community. POSSIBLE PC is improving opportunities for families in the Greater Atlanta area by providing access to education, vocational training and work at home opportunities for people of all ages. This is enabling many of them to move out of poverty and improve their lives. But that’s not all POSSIBLE PC accomplishes with our mission – every refurbished computer that goes to a family in need, is one less batch of electronics that could end up in a landfill.

Our Commitment To Ending The Digital Divide

According to the Pew Research Center, only 29% of Americans with family incomes of less than $30,000 a year have smartphones and only 46% percent have computers. For families earning $100,000 or more, it’s close to 100%. This has been a travesty, as Covid 19 shuttered classrooms throughout the country, making it even more difficult for children in poor families to learn. Even as learning in classrooms returns, remote learning is likely to remain a factor for snow days, enrichment resources and for low cost higher education – making access to computers a continuing concern. The ability to work from home will continue to be a must for many high paying jobs – leaving low income people without computers less able to access employment opportunities. That’s how the digital is stifling educational and economic opportunity in low income communities, disproportionally impacting people of color. One of the most targeted and beneficial ways to help end this digital divide is to provide affordable computers to families in the Greater Atlanta area, empowering them to access educational, vocational and employment opportunities. Fighting the digital divide that is inhibiting the success of poor families is what prompted us to create POSSIBLE PC.

Computers Help The Whole Family

Having a computer in the home is becoming a necessity for educating children, but it can also be a road out of poverty for many families struggling to make ends meet.

Having a computer in the home is becoming a necessity for educating children, but it can also be a road out of poverty for many families struggling to make ends meet. For example, working parents can save on child care by working from home or earn extra money by starting home businesses. Parents can do overtime hours at home, bringing in extra money without increasing childcare costs. A home computer can make it practical for a single parent to earn a degree online in the evening when it wouldn’t be possible to attend in person classes. The possibilities are endless and include starting an Etsy store to sell crafts or selling computer graphics on Fiverr. The first step towards upward mobility for many families is having a computer at home.

Feeding Two Birds With One Stone

There are programs that provide new computers to people in need, but manufacturing electronics is so expensive that they’ll never fill the gap.

There are programs that provide new computers to people in need, but manufacturing electronics is so expensive that they’ll never fill the gap. Additionally, most of those programs only provide rudimentary “Chromebooks” that are only suitable for the most basic functions and will end up having to be disposed of when they are no longer useful. That’s why POSSIBLE PC came up with a way to utilize the computers that are discarded each day by people that upgrade to newer models, and refurbish them for use by people in need. POSSIBLE PC’s approach feeds two birds with one scone – by providing affordable refurbished computers to people in need, we’re also keeping people’s unwanted computers out of landfills where their poisonous byproducts leach into the soil.

Our Partnership With EWM

Our affiliation with EWM, the leading electronics recycling and waste management company in the Greater Atlanta area, gives us access to the materials we need to provide refurbished computers.

Our affiliation with EWM, the leading electronics recycling and waste management company in the Greater Atlanta area, gives us access to the materials we need to provide refurbished computers. EWM maintains a “zero landfill” policy, so finding a home for electronic waste is both an integral part of their closed loop recycling mission and an important starting point of access to electronics for POSSIBLE PC. EVM provides businesses with dumpsters, gaylords, free pickups, data destruction servies and other enticements to dispose of their electronics waste through the company.
